Last weekend over 150 rugby administrators, coaches, players, and exhibitors attended the USA Rugby Youth Development Conference in Atlanta, GA.

Several people from Michigan went to the conference including MYRA officers Jarod Bisbee, Sean McTaggart, Jim Clawson, Michelle Wong, and exhibitor Fred Keeling from Packdown Scrumselds, and Dexter coach Doug Karaska.

It was great being around so many people who are passionate about rugby, including various members of the USA Rugby staff and several USA Eagles from the men’s and women’s National Teams, including Luke Gross, Paul Emerick, Mike Petri, Christy Ringgenberg, and Phaidra Knight.

Attendees could choose from several different types of sessions to attend during the conference, including coaching, refereeing, safety, and administrative topics. Although the conference was geared toward youth rugby, almost all of the material in the presentations can apply to every level of rugby, including youth, high school, college, and even club.

There were also several breakout sessions for the SBROs to discuss best practices, trends, and strategy for growing the game at the youth and high school level. Overall the conference was a great networking and learning experience!
