2012 Michigan Youth Rugby Association AGM

AGM2012 Michigan Youth Rugby Association AGM

The 2012 MYRA AGM was held at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI on Saturday, January 21, 2012.  Various topics were discussed, such as new clubs voted in for probationary membership, general code of conduct for players, coaches, and parents, changes in referee fees from MiRRS, a new boys high school playoff system, and starting a U-19 select side teams for boys again.

Another important item that was discussed was Michigan’s confirmed status as an emerging State Based Rugby Organization (SBRO) with USA Rugby.  By becoming an SBRO, youth rugby in Michigan will gain benefits including best practices, developmental support, professional development opportunities, network access, and financial support through two grant programs.

Several MYRA officers will be attending the USA Rugby Youth Development Conference in Atlanta, GA from January 27-29, 2012 to learn more about becoming an SBRO and how to help grow the game at the youth and high school level.

For more information on SBROs, check out USA Rugby’s SBRO Webpage

From USA Rugby’s website, “SBROs are responsible for developing an administrative structure with the objective of promoting the development of youth rugby within their state. They are also responsible for day-to-day governance including, but not limited to, organizing league structures, collecting dues, implementing a state championship, and conducting rugby outreach.”
